The famous This Is Anfield sign was placed in the tunnel by Bill Shankly in the 1960s to intimidate visiting teams. Players touch it for luck before every home game.
Liverpool's 5-0 win over Nottingham Forest in 1988 was voted the greatest Football League match of all time by the Football League itself.
Anfield's Kop stand is named after the Battle of Spion Kop in the Second Boer War, as many Liverpool soldiers died there.

“Some people believe football is a matter of life and death. I am very disappointed with that attitude. I can assure you it is much, much more important than that.”

You'll Never Walk Alone
You'll Never Walk Alone began life as a show tune from Rodgers and Hammerstein's 1945 musical Carousel. In 1963, Liverpool band Gerry and the Pacemakers recorded a cover that reached #1 in the UK charts. The Kop - Liverpool's legendary home terrace - had already been singing it before matches, but the chart success cemented its place. Since Bill Shankly heard the Kop singing it and declared it would be the club's anthem, the song has been played before every home game at Anfield. The sight and sound of 54,000 voices rising together, scarves aloft, singing You'll Never Walk Alone is one of football's most iconic and moving traditions. It is more than a song - it is a promise, a bond between the club, its city, and its people. In times of joy and tragedy alike, the people of Liverpool sing. And they never walk alone.
You'll Never Walk Alone
When you walk through a storm Hold your head up high And don't be afraid of the dark At the end of a storm There's a golden sky And the sweet, silver song of a lark Walk on through the wind Walk on through the rain Though your dreams be tossed and blown Walk on, walk on With hope in your heart And you'll never walk alone You'll never walk alone Walk on, walk on With hope in your heart And you'll never walk alone You'll never walk alone
